Online: Summer Music Project (Aug.)

with Megan Freitas

Calendar Aug 17, 2020 at 12 pm, runs for 1 week

Your kids will set their creativity free with our Summer Music Project. They’ll work with a small group of their peers to write and record their very own music and comedy TV show from the comfort and safety of home. Activities will include writing stories and skits, writing and performing songs, creating artwork, and recording their own performances to create a unique video.

Age: 8 - 11

Two sessions:

  • Week of July 20th
  • Week of August 17th
  • Monday through Friday, 12 pm to 2 pm each day

What will campers do?

The program is based on a TV show framework, including an opening theme song, skits, commercials, and a big ending. These elements will be developed using a storyline about a band facing adversity and how they rise to the challenge and triumph. Each day, the campers will collaborate on the script, rehearse the music, and film the TV show via Zoom.

What equipment do we need?

Students will need to have access to a computer or tablet, Internet access, and the Zoom video conferencing platform (which is available for free). Headphones or earbuds will be needed for portions of the class, as well.

What instrument do we need?

Your child will need a musical instrument. Keyboard and pianos (in tune), drums, and stringed instruments work very well. If the child will be using a stringed instrument, someone at home will need to be able to tune it before each class meeting. If you need to purchase an instrument, a simple, inexpensive 61-key keyboard in the $45 to $60 range will work just fine. They can be found at many retailers. If you would like a specific reference or are interested in a higher quality instrument, just let us know!

What if my child can’t play an instrument?

This camp is designed to accommodate children with varying levels of musical ability. Even if your child has not played an instrument before, we can simplify their part and get them participating.

Is parental supervision required?

NO! The only parental involvement will be on the last day when parents will need to record some additional video with their child for the TV show.
